Two Days Ago...

The GBE2 prompt this week is: two days ago.  I have sort of neglected by blog for the last several weeks, so I figured it was time to jump back into things w/ this one.

Thinking back to 2 days ago, the main thing I clearly remember is feeling grateful.  I had been extremely sick the day before, so I was practically giddy at the prospect of being upright & healthy again.  I was also a wee bit excited to see that I lost 2 lbs in the day & a half I was sick.  (Not the best way to lose weight, but I'll take what I can get.)  I was back to the grind after being out of work the day before.  It was also the first workday since I had decided to quit drinking coffee for awhile.  Work is pretty much the only place that I drink coffee.  My job isn't full of thrills & excitement, which means I need stimulants to keep me alert.  Since I'm not real keen on crack, coffee is my drug of choice.

I made it through the day without my Folgers fix, then spent the evening running some errands & just generally trying to catch up with things that fell by the wayside while I was sick.  Overall, I was glad to feel like I managed to get a few things accomplished.  While killing some time on pinterest before bed, I saw on one of the sparkpeople boards that they are offering a summer fun run virtual 5k.  I checked it out & decided I wanted to participate.  Basically I just need to follow the the free training plan they offer & track my progress on my sparkpeople account.  Then anytime between July 29th-August 4th, I need to walk/run 3.1 miles & post my time.  There's a drawing for a few prizes as incentive for those who complete the virtual 5k, but I'm not terribly interested in that part of the challenge.  I am more interested in the physical benefits. Sparkpeople has been an amazing resource for me in trying to get healthy.  That's not to say I haven't fallen off the bandwagon more than once, but it's always there when I pick back up & I'm always amazed with how much it helps me to be accountable for the things I eat & do (or don't do).

No, I don't have any epic tales to share from two days ago.  In fact, I think this post is pretty boring.  Despite all that, I did take steps to changing things up, trying to break out of this rut I seem to be in.  So maybe I don't have anything that is worth reading, but I am excited for the changes set in motion from two days ago.

  2. OOps...again. Doesn't sound boring to me, sounds like you might enjoy having some group support and you can count on this chick! :)
I am not giving up my coffee, not giving up my smokes and probably not exercising anytime soon, but if you want to, YAY for you! ♥

    1. I'm a pretty good self-motivator, but I always like a cheering section on hand for when I hit the weak points. :)

The only reason I was able to give up smoking (11 yrs ago last Dec.) was b/c a) I wanted to, and b) I hate that guilty feeling I get when I don't stick w/ something I say I'm going to. Now, when it comes to coffee, I periodically give it up then start back up. Each time I stop drinking it, it is with the understanding that it's only temporary b/c I don't think coffee is bad in moderation. More than anything, I'm the kind of person who is constantly trying to prove to myself that I'm actually in control over some aspect of my life. So coffee is the vice that I give up for awhile, then pick back up when I'm satisfied that I've proven I control it. (Wow, is my crazy showing?!) *lol*

  3. It's called summer! I've been it the rut too. I want to play, when I still need to work. I love coffee, and food. Hate exercise and fat :/ The rut will pass, mine did. As for exercise and fat: que sera, sera.

    1. Summer will do that to a person! It doesn't seem fair that kids get 3 months off each summer, but us grown-ups don't.

  4. I tend to be either fully on of fully off the healthy eating/exercise thing. Right now, I'm behaving myself. In two weeks, I'll be on vacation. Uh-oh.

    1. I think it's illegal to adhere to a workout/healthy eating regimen while on vacation. That would be my first decree if I were Queen for a day. :)
